Each dog has a handler, a trained professional, who works in partnership with the dog during leak detection operations. The handler is responsible for guiding the dog and interpreting its behavior and alerts. During the Leak Detection Process, the dog and handler move along the pipeline corridor, with the dog actively sniffing for leaks. Dogs are capable of covering large areas efficiently, and their sense of smell can detect extremely low concentrations of odors associated with pipeline leaks.
